Scaredy Squirrel by Mélanie Watt is a cute book about a nervous squirrel that never leaves his nut tree. It’s way too dangerous out there. He’s afraid if he leaves the tree he’ll bump into a tarantula, a shark, or a bee, eek! He’d rather stay right where he is – up in his tree. But, if one day danger were to come along, he’s super prepared. He has an emergency kit with antibacterial soap, a tin of sardines (to distract potential sharks), and a parachute. So, day after day, he watches and waits and looks through his trusty binoculars and one day he spots something that well, scares, him. He leaps up, only to realize, he’s leaped out of his tree (gulp) without his parachute… what comes next is an adventure and the idea that maybe, just maybe, trying something new can be scary and also fun, but most definitely worthwhile.
